The Blue Cross Blue Shield Health System is a federation of 40 independent, locally operated Plans united through membership in the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA). BCBSA and its Member Plans are dedicated to bringing meaningful changes and advances to the U.S. health care financing and delivery system.

Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance plans offer health insurance coverage in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The Blues cover all segments of the population, including large employer coverage, small businesses coverage, as well as individual health coverage for covering families without access to group health insurance.

More than 80 percent of U.S. hospitals and nearly 90 percent of U.S. physicians accept Blue Cross and Blue Shield health insurance cards.
